What is the origin of the Sadge emote on Twitch?

Sadge's origins may be traced back to 2005, when Matt Furie released the ‘Boys Club' cartoon to his MySpace, which included Pepe the frog.

Pepe the frog was later adopted by 4chan members in 2008, and by 2015, it had become an internet-wide meme, with several versions of the frog appearing online.

It didn't take long for Pepe the frog to make its way to Twitch, as user MonkaSenpai published the MonkaS emote barely one year after it became a craze.

From then on, various variants of Pepe the frog began to appear on Twitch, like Pepega, MonkaHmm, and others.

Sadge was posted to BetterTTV on January 3rd, 2020 by user Redshell, and 6 days later it was also uploaded to FrankerFaceZ.

Sadge was quickly adopted by Forsen‘s audience, the same Twitch community that popularized MonkaS and other Twitch emotes.

Sadge quickly became a fan favorite and one of the most popular emotes on Twitch, thanks to the success of prior Pepe and Monka emotes.

Not only did the emote become popular, but the word Sadge became common parlance in both the Twitch community and other online groups. Sadge is now a meme that has spread far beyond Twitch.

The Sadge emote is available on over 57,000 Twitch channels via FrankerFaceZ and 90,000 BetterTTV channels.

Sadge has been used over 28,000,000 times on FFZ and is one of the top 35 FrankerFaceZ emotes, according to Stream Elements.

It is a top 100 emote on BetterTTV, with 22,000,000 usage.

WHAT IS THE SADGE EMOTE?

The Sadge emote is one of several popular Twitch emotes. It features Pepe the Frog, as do a few others, such as the Monkas emote. This emoticon depicts a flattened out Pepe. In general, the frog appears depressed, forlorn, and fully deflated. Pepe the frog is used in several Twitch emotes to show emotion. The meaning of the emote is determined by the emotion displayed by this individual Pepe, not by the choice to utilize Pepe. If you're wondering what Sadge means or what the Sadge meaning is, Pepe is utilized to communicate emotion rather than being directly about Pepe.
